As well as the books mentioned in our news section have a look at these two titles; Cormac McCarthy's The Passenger and Celeste Ng's Our Missing Hearts.
McCarthy is one of the greatest American writers of the 20th Century. Here is a review of his first book in twenty years:
"Traversing the American South, from the garrulous bar rooms of New Orleans to an abandoned oil rig off the Florida coast, The Passenger is a breathtaking novel of morality and science, the legacy of sin, and the madness that is human consciousness."

The other, recommended writer is also American - Celeste Ng. Ng is a relatively new writer for those of us in the shop and now we are big fans. And, just as a little aside - we loved her passionate defence of indie Bookshops, written recently for The New York Times:
“...one of the reasons I love independent bookstores: they’re places where we can find not only new reads but also new ideas, new viewpoints, and new energy. They are gathering spaces, community builders, and intellectual crossroads, curated not by algorithms but by people who love reading and thinking and talking books as much as I do.”
