Hello to all our book-reading friends:
What a brilliant Autumn we've had in Wanaka. The holidays have brought visitors from all over the country, Australia, and further afield. The school holiday book sale for children’s fiction and Young Adult titles was very busy. We really enjoyed talking to children and teenagers about their choices.
Other holiday visitors have paid us some lovely compliments on our book selection. One nice young political scientist from Otago University said our bookshop was his Mecca and he makes regular “pilgrimages” to stock up. How great is that! So to help you organise your winter reading we have compiled a reading list of new titles in fiction and non-fiction. See below in Book News.
Interestingly, we have noticed a strong increase in sales of non fiction of late. Science, History, Society, and Biography have all been doing well. The standout sale has been Peter Frankopan and his extraordinary book The Earth Transformed - An Untold History After an interview on Kim Hill's Saturday Morning, a rush of people wanted his book. The link to the interview is here.
Other news: As promised in our March newsletter we are donating 10% of the profit from book sales in March to the flood victims in the North Island. We are delighted to report that $2,150 will be winging its way to the Red Cross Appeal. Thank you for all the support.
Our May event will be lots of fun. We have arranged a special private viewing of Book Club: The Next Chapter. (Do you think they named it after us?). Preceding the movie, at 3.30pm, we invite you to join us in the shop for an exclusive book-browsing and buying session, with a 20% discount on all books purchased, as well as a complimentary wine or soft drink. Tickets are $15 and will be available through the "Events" tab on the website or from the shop.
