Hello everyone,
Isn’t this the best time for us all to be in Wanaka enjoying our books? Cool nights and sunny days and not too frantic in town. The shop has been nice and steady this February - especially appreciated after the constant busyness of Christmas and the New Year. Now we are heading to March with lots of fabulous new titles in stock. Have a look at the four we have featured below.
March is also a busy month for our “pop-up” shop events. We start with the A&P Show 8th-9th March. This year we are sharing a little site at the show with Nathan Weathington, publisher of the highly regarded 1964 Culture Magazine. We’ll have a fun selection of Show Specials, including children’s picture books, locally written fiction & non-fiction, and witty cards.
Ripe is our next big event and we’ll be at the Glendhu Bay site complete with our own smart black tent and loads of wine and cooking books such as Wild Drinks, Bartender’s Guide to Gin, and the gorgeous The Complete Asian Cookbook by the legendary Charmaine Solomon.
Inspired by Ripe, this month we are featuring our best selling cookery titles in the shop windows with 10% off for all newsletter readers. We have some wonderful new titles for foodies including Bedside Companion for Food Lovers, Plated, A Lifetime Love Affair with Food. There is also a great range of vegan and vegetarian books as well as something for the carnivores: how about Meatsmith, Home Cooking for Friends and Family?
Talking of family, we had a stimulating parents and teachers evening earlier in the month which focused on understanding the barriers to children’s reading. Our special thanks to Karen Ruddenklau and Lucy Fullerton for sharing their time and expertise. This was such a successful event, we want to repeat it annually.
We are also looking at setting up an occasional bookshop get-together to support adults who want to read more confidently and would like a helping hand in a relaxed setting. If you know someone who might be interested, please suggest they pop into the Bookshop and we’ll put their name on our list. Alternatively, they can ring or email. More information on this will be available in the April newsletter.
