Hello Readers,
Phew! is all we can say - the move into the new extension has been exhilarating and exhausting (in a good way). It is thrilling to see some of our big books from Art and Design, and Cooking sitting proudly up on the high shelves enjoying the sunshine. Also, the children’s area has expanded and again the big nonfiction children's titles are on display.
We have to say the biggest thank you to all our staff and wonderful volunteers from the shop's book clubs, also Jenny’s amazing friends from her own lovely book club. They all rolled up their sleeves and shifted hundreds of books. The big push was to be ready for the August visit of renowned photographer, Jane Ussher. She and publisher Deborah Coddington have included us in their forthcoming book: Independent Bookshops of New Zealand (2024). A great honour for our only three years old little shop. So many thanks one and all for helping us to get ready and making the new extension look stunning.
Forthcoming events are lining up too.
Father’s Day is always fun for us, and we have chosen a range of light and cheerful reads and some challenging non fiction, as well as literary thrillers. “The Waterfall” display is loaded up for Fathers Day and staff are also keen to make suggestions.
Pride Wanaka - come down and support all our friends and visit the pop up shop, Sunday 9th September, 4pm-8pm.
Spring in the Garden - 24th September, 4pm. Join us for refreshments and discussion on what to plant for cutting, floral design tips and books for inspiration. $15.00 - Book early to ensure a place.

An absorbing new novel by the highly regarded American writer. We only discovered her a few summers ago but like her very much. So does the New York Times book page

Sleeping on Islands
Andrew Motion was the British Poet Laureate for over a decade. However, when he was a teenager he struggled to express himself in a household of tragedy and silence. A fascinating exploration of the drive to write poetry.

Loot
A spellbinding historical novel, a hero’s quest, a love story, the story of a young artist coming of age, and an exuberant heist adventure that traces the bloody legacy of colonialism across two continents and fifty years.
