Hello to all our book reading friends:
We have decided the best way to help our friends and family affected by the floods in the North Island is to send a cash donation. For the entire month of MARCH we will be giving 10% off every book sold to the Red Cross. Please come in and buy a book to help support those struggling in flood-stricken areas.
March is also a busy month in town with the A&P show and the Ripe Food and Wine Festival at Glendhu Bay, as well as the Festival of Colour later in the month. For the A&P Show, we are proudly sponsoring the schools' Wearable Arts programme. You will find us in the foyer of the Rugby Pavillion, and we will have some super-special bargains in children’s and Young Adult fiction. A chance to stock up on great autumn reads for the family. For our pop-up shop at the Ripe Festival at Glendhu Bay we will be featuring a special selection of wine and brewing titles, along with all our fabulous cookery books. We look forward to seeing many friends at the two shows.
If you have been in the store in the last few weeks you may have had the chance to meet our wonderful British bookseller, Rachel Silcock.(pictured below). Rachel is on her OE and will be with us for most of March. Rachel hails from Stratford-on-Avon and a bookshop called Borzoi - an unusual name for a bookshop you might think but apparently it is named after the dogs who used to be a feature of the shop when it opened 40 years ago. They also have a second bookshop in Abingdon near Oxford called Mostly Books.
We are exploring the idea of becoming “sister" book shops across the globe. Maybe one day we can have an official staff swap between the shops. The shop is certainly buzzing with youthful energy at the moment as Rachel, Sarah and the rest of the Team have been busy writing book reviews for the Wanaka App. These are published each week on the app and also appear on our website.
A further shout out to good friend of the Next Chapter, Mia Bennett, the librarian from Mount Aspiring College, who has been appointed a judge for the NZ Book Awards. Mia will help to decide the best books in YA and Children's categories for 2023. For more information on all the books in the longlist for the awards, Click here. Finalists to be announced June 1st. 2023.
