Garden Spring-spiration
At the bookshop we’re celebrating the arrival of Spring with some gorgeous books, and an event, to make you want ‘spring’ into the garden
This week we are profiling some beautiful books to inspire your spring gardening, with a focus on florals and foliage for picking.
A Guided Discovery of Gardening by Jukia Atkinson-Dunn
Another beautifully presented title by this New Zealand author, with lots of very practical tips and guidance, as well as lovely images. Sub-titled “Knowledge, Creativity and Joy”, this is a practical introduction to the delights of gardening but also offers inspiration a-plenty, including informative basics and fascinating insights.
The Cut Flower Sourcebook by Rachel Siegfried
This book turns the spotlight on perennials and woody plants which return year after year with little effort or waste, offer valuable habitats to garden wildlife, and also bring a more natural quality to arrangements. Siegfried presents a selection of 130 rigorously trialed plants, together with beautiful illustrations that capture the floral flair made possible by seasonal diversity.
Charlotte Moss Flowers by Charlotte Moss
The renowned British interior designer celebrates flowers and offers endless inspiration as glorious additions to entertaining, decorating and day-to-day living. From single stems to lavish displays, this book is a testament to taste-makers past (think Constance Spry and Lady Bird Johnson), as well as a handbook for imbuing everyday life with beauty and grace. The book itself will enhance your home interior.
The Flower Hunter by Lucy Hunter
A sumptuous new edition of this title, which relies on gorgeous photography to inspire. This is ‘a floral love story inspired by the landscape’. Through her images, Hunter shows how we can draw inspiration from the natural world and scale it down as a stimulus for creativity in floral arranging with fresh, dried, and pressed flowers. Deserving of a place on your coffee table, even if arranging flowers is not your thing.
