Hello to all our book reading friends:
We start another year and boy have we turned on the summer weather! As someone said: like the golden summers of our youth. We love seeing our customers choose a new book and strolling off to the lake to read. Or, others, who pick up a small classic to take into the hills.
A new innovation is our book news and reviews, every week on the Wanaka App. If you would like to read them they are also on our website under: "Choosing your Next Chapters".
The shop has been selling up a storm particularly in New Zealand Fiction. Interest in NZ titles is led by the return of our wonderful Australian, and Northern Hemisphere visitors. They tell us how they want to understand more of our culture and history and see our literature as the best guide. Here is a list of the most popular New Zealand fiction titles over the last month: Greta and Valdin, Kurangaituku, The Axeman’s Carnival (more on this later), A Runner’s Guide to Rakiura (special shout out to local author, Jessica Kany.) Kawai, and Mrs Jewell and the Wreck of the General Grant (see events above). All the feedback on these titles has been excellent.
Another new trend is the number of our younger customers telling us they are: “...putting down the phone and picking up books - because I want to get into reading.” This is a comment we hear at least once a day. The other group of new readers are our busy young mothers. They are eschewing TV and turning to reading in significant numbers. Congratulations to all the new converts to books and "yippee" we say!
