It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a parent at their child's bed time, must be in possession of a good book.
As lovers of books, we hope to imprint a love of reading on our children as early as possible. We understand the joy (and also relief!) that comes from reading a children's book that is just as engaging for the adult who is reading as for the child who's being read to, especially when books are a nightly event.
With this in mind, we can safely recommend the following picture books to bring a smile and warm the hearts of the weariest/most reluctant bedtime readers ...
After the Fall by Dan Santat - This is the story of Humpty Dumpty after his fall...he was put back together again but never quite the same. Discover what happens to Humpty through this beautiful picture book told with empathy and humour about being brave and conquering your fears.
It Fell From the Sky by The Fan Brothers - Shrink on down to the world of insects where something has fallen from the sky and the local insect community try to make sense of what it is.
Mini and Hardly and the Big Adventure by Catherine Rayner - Remember when you were little and couldn't wait to be a grown up? Mini and Hardy are small unicorns and know this feeling well. If only they were grown up and they could do whatever they want…what could possibly go wrong?!
The Storm Whale by Benji Davies - A sweet and colourful story that encompasses friendship between a child and animal, and the love between a father and a son.
The Boy and The Elephant by Freya Blackwood - Get lost in the magic and imagination of this picture book without words. Through richly detailed illustrations the book tells a story with the themes of friendship, the importance of nature, and the ability to make a difference. We like this one as you can make the story as long or as short as you please, and the story may change with every re-telling, as different details will emerge and be noticed.
